Day 3

Is your head spinning yet?!  Just thinking about how much we'd ALREADY seen by day 3, it still blows my mind.  This is the day we spent in Capri.  As we are pulling up to the port, this is our first view of the almost picture perfect Isle of Capri.

We were immediately greeted by our local guide and put on a smaller boat.  I chose to sit in the very front, because I really needed to feel fresh air.  I am glad I chose this seat.  It felt nice sitting in the Italian sun, while being splashed periodically by the water.  Here are a few shots taken during our boat tour around the island.  It was hard to hear what our guide was saying, because of the frequency on our "whispers" (headphone system that allows you to hear what the guide is saying).  So enjoy the pics and my lack of knowledge!

In this shot, notice the little statue sitting atop the rock.  The locals say he is welcoming people to the island.

The water alone was enough to fall in love with.  It truly was clear and the color of a gem.

We saw a few grottos up close, but sadly didn't get to see "the blue grotto."  One day!

They say whoever you kiss when going through this tunnel is who you will spend the rest of your life with.  Choose carefully, they warn!

After our boat tour, we took a train up the mountain to the more fancy pants part of Capri.

Once up top, you see can see the beautiful flowers and vegetation of the island.  The climate was so pleasant and nice.  Yes, it was hot because it was a very sunny day, but the lack of high humidity was glorious.

From this view, if you look down to the lower right hand corner of the photo, you see a white house perched amongst the trees.  This is Sophia Loren's house!  There were celebrities in Capri during our visit (seeing pics posted on Instagram), so it was fascinating to imagine who was hanging out on the enormous yachts down below us.

This was the view from our window at lunch!  The spaghetti down below was made with eggplant.  I am not a huge eggplant fan, but it was tasty!

I couldn't afford anything on the upper level of Capri.  It is definitely for the rich.  You could find any high fashion brands.  The ride in the train down the mountain provided seriously breathtaking views of my surroundings.  I took some photos, but mostly enjoyed the view.  The most striking thing I didn't get photos of were lemons the size of my head growing everywhere in orchards.  Lemons, oranges, and olives were the most prevalent plants, besides flowers, I saw.  I regret not buying a bottle of Limoncello (liquor made in Capri from lemons). Next time!

After gathering up our crew, we boarded the ferry headed toward the port in Naples this time.  We were only in Naples long enough to say goodbye to our guide Julio and say hello to Antonia!  The bus picked us up and took us to our next hotel in Civitavecchia. (Again, head spinning yet?!?!)  This was located an hour and a half outside Rome.  It was a smaller beach town, which felt slower paced than the other places we visited.

Our next hotel key!

Our dinner was at a restaurant very close by.  We had lasagna, which as you can tell from the photo is not what we are used to in the states.  Nice to try it in Italy for sure!

Day 4 will be about our trip to Vatican City.
